The river, which has its source at Bukit Ulu Semenyih (450m above sea level) is 37km long and is divided into three stages — upstream, midstream and downstream.

The Semenyih dam and water treatment plant was built to meet the water supply demand from Putrajaya, Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Klang Valley and Semenyih.

At the end of 2016, the water treatment plant was closed several times due to contamination of the Semenyih River.

Closure of the treatment plant caused water supply disruption in 450 areas in the districts of Petaling, Hulu Langat, and Kuala Langat.

The frequent closure of water treatment plants has made consumers, both domestic and commercial, angry. As such, NGOs like the Federation of Malaysian

Consumer Associations (Fomca), Forum Air Malaysia (FAM) and Water and Energy Consumers Association (Wecam) have taken the initiative to tackle the problem of pollution in Semenyih River.

Fomca, FAM and Wecam carried out a site visit and traced the source of the pollution to several areas including industrial zones, landfills, burial grounds and agricultural land. Most of these areas are located upstream of Semenyih River. Garbage from the town and villages near the river also contributed to the pollution.

Based on these factors, we concluded that majority of the people in Semenyih are not fully aware on
the importance of the river.

Fomca, FAM and Wecam will be conducting awareness campaigns for residents living near Semenyih River as a means to address this problem. The campaigns will be held over a three-year period and will involve various activities such as gotong-royong and competitions to clean up the dirty areas, talks for the public and students in Semenyih, and consultations on alternative waste disposal for the industrial sector.

This campaign aims to make residents, traders and manufacturers around Sungai Semenyih aware of
the dire consequences facing them if their activities continue to pollute the river.

A similar programme should be carried out on the Langat River, a main source of raw water for seven water treatment plants in Selangor, namely Sg Langat, Bukit Tampoi, Cheras Batu 11, Salak Tinggi, Sg Pangsoon, Sg Serai and Sg Lolo. If the Langat River is contaminated, these water treatment
plants would need to be closed temporarily.

On Oct 8, 2016, the Langat and Cheras water treatment plants had to be closed due to contamination
of water from Semantan River. Closure of the water treatment plant resulted in disruption of
water supply to several areas including Cheras, Kuala Lumpur and the Petaling district.

Fomca, FAM and Wecam have taken the initiative to raise public awareness about the importance of
the river, but we need the cooperation of all parties to make the campaign successful.
With three crystal chandeliers adorning its ceiling, Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur's new ballroom is set to become the place to host events in luxury and splendour.

Spanning 1,509sq m, the state-of-the-art, pillarless ballroom was designed by Hong Kong-based LRF Designers Limited, with the facelift completed after four months of renovation.

The works undertaken during this period also included the upgrading of 13 function rooms and the hotel's main restaurant — Lemon Garden.

A total of 52 guests were invited to the ballroom's relaunch ceremony and treated to a five-course dinner under one of the majestic chandeliers while being serenaded by per formers.

Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur area general manager Manfred Weber thanked the guests for attending the ceremony in his brief welcome speech.

"I will not bore the guests by talking about the ballroom.

"This event is for guests to get together and enjoy great food and each other's company," he said.

Guests were also given a chance to assemble their own desserts with the ingredients prepared by the hotel's chefs at the end of the event.

The grand ballroom features a high ceiling, an elevated stage, a flexible partitioning system, elegant
decor and cutting-edge facilities.

The entrance of the grand ballroom is made of marble and white timber doors while plush blue and
beige hand-tufted carpets covered the floor.

The ballroom can seat up to 1,800 guests in a reception or theatre setting, 1,440 guests in a banquet setting and 660 guests in a classroom setting.

Equipped with advanced lighting system as well as audio-visual and communication systems, the 13 new functions rooms are all named after different states in Malaysia, with sizes ranging from 905sq m to 45sq Lemon Garden Restaurant's new modern and contemporary look exudes warmth and sophistication. Visitors can also check out the new menu, which was created to complement the new look.

Deepwater Port

Johor was chosen as the location of Malaysia's most ambitious down-stream oil and gas project due to its proximity to deepwater port facilities and regional demand centres. This enables easy transportation of finished products to the market. The potential investments into tank terminals in the PDT include an expansion of the existing independent tank farm owned by the Pengerang Independent Terminal, and ongoing construction of the dedicated tank terminals owned by Pengerang Terminals (Two) Sdn Bhd. Other projects include the development of new tank terminals with deepwater jetty facilities capable of handling ultra and very large crude carriers.
The US$7bil investment by Saudi Arabian oil company Saudi Aramco for a 50% stake in a new refinery and a petrochemical facility being developed by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) is helping to raise Johor's profile as a world-class downstream oil and gas, hub. New tank farms and deepwater jetties are coming up on stream in stages, adding to an array of trading, bunkering, warehousing and manufacturing projects that dot its southern coastline in the Tanjung Bin, Tanjung Langsat and Pengerang districts facing Singapore.
The Pengerang Integrateg Petroleum Complex (PIPC) is home to Petronas's Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development, or Rapid, and Dialog Group Bhd-Vopak's Pengerang Deepwater Terminal.
The Pangkor Laut Resort has earned superlatives and rightfully so, as this writer finds out the second time around.

By S.S. Yoga

This place is half-way to heaven, I said to my travelling companions, and they agreed. Imagine my delight when I found out that heaven was within reach! Yes, a god, a football god, deigned to appear before us mere mortals who happened to be at YTL's Pangkor Laut Resort one recent weekend. Eric Cantona, the former Manchester United player (and eternal legend), appeared from the heavens in a helicopter and was transported to his earthly abode, the Pavarotti Suite. How appropriate, since the late tenor after which this suite was named did pronounce this resort in Perak paradise.

Cantona was in for a spa treatment at the internationally renowned Spa Village, which he followed with lunch before departing to wherever French gods live. I wanted only the best for my football god, which is why I had, the day before, offered myself as the "official tester" of the spas signature pretreatment 45-minute Bath House Experience and the Spa Experiences signature 105-minute Campur-Campur massage.

The pretreatment was quite unique – a foot-bath followed by Chinese foot pounding, followed by the traditional Malay circulating bath(which includes some breathing exercises), a Japanese style bath with a goshigoshi (scrub) cloth, then a dip in the heated Rotenburu pool (quite hot and nice) and ending with a cold exfoliating wash and a Shanghai Scrub.

The Campur-Campur massage blends a variety of Malay and Thai techniques that includes a steam pouch. My masseur worked every inch of my body and I came out quite refreshed and ready to take on the world.

Our group of Malaysian media and Thai media and bloggers was at the resort courtesy of Expedia; the idea was that during our stay we would test the features — Some of them new – of Expedia web and the mobilestablet app (which is also available on Apple Watch).

For one thing, you can now continue your sessions from desktop to tablet to mobile without losing any information. The one-stop flight and hotel Site also loads much faster to cater to our increasingly mobile lifestyle, and now requires fewer clicks to get to your bookings.

The mobile app actually gives free flight status updates, something that is usually a paid premium on other apps. For flights, it displays gate information, a flight map, and other relevant information. For hotels, addresses, contact numbers, and a map is provided.

I tested out the app on my iPhone, and it loaded very quickly. A search for available rooms at Pangkor Laut Resort gave the correct result – only one villa available at RM888Dang, no wonder it was almost a full-house at the Feast Village buffet breakfast. Its quite an extensive spread there, with Chinese, Malay, Indian, and Western choices — must-tries are the nasi lemak, the roti canaitosaipuri, and . the French toast.

My pulse quickens (and my body fattens) at this resort because of its numerous food offerings. There are six more F&B establishments! We had the pleasure of a private dinner at Chapman's Bar located by the award-winning Emerald Bay and overlooking a great beach with a stunning sunset. It ticked all the boxes. Dinner the next day was an equally gastronomic experience. During a previous visit, I was not exactly blown away by the Chinese dishes at Uncle Lims Kitchen (81-year-old Chef Lim is the oldest Staff member there). This time around, though, there was hardly anything to pick on. Standouts were the Fish Maw Soup, Calamansi Chicken, Uncle Lims Fantasy Prawns, Uncle Lims Aromatic Style Fish, and Asparagus With Seared Scallops in XO Sauce.

It felt good to get back to my gargantuan Hill Villa after all that feasting. The views were fantastic from the balcony and, surrounded by lush jungle, we could hear the birds chirping, the friendly hornbills clacking loudly, and the clicking” of insects. From past experience, I knew to keep the doors and windows shut to prevent the clever and naughty” monkeys from becoming house guests.

The only problem I had with my villa was the poor mobile telephone reception, which meant I could not access my work e-mail. Theres a wide range of accommodation on this private island owned by YTL: 52 Hill Villas, 36 Garden Villas, eight Beach Villas, 19 Sea Villas, 22 Spa Villas, and two Sea Suites. There is also the Pavarotti Suite, which is an amazing space that is filled with many pictures and mementoes of the singer.

If you think all there is to do is eat, relax, and pamper yourself at the Spa, youd be mistaken. There are a number of activities you can sign up for, and one of the signature things to do is the Sunset Cruise (with tea) on a junk that takes you around the island and gives you a view of the sunset at Emerald Bay.

The sunrise here is also stunning – but sadly, on the first morning, it was cloudy, on the second, it was raining, and by evening it was still cloudy, so no sunset either. But the cruise experience was still worth it, though I was a little seasick as the sea was choppy.

You can also do early morning yoga or tai chi here. There are also guided jungle walks (or you could venture out by yourself). For the Sporty types, there is a gym, water sports, tennis and squash, and golf. For families, theres also islandhopping, picnics, luxury Cruises, traditional games, Sandcastle-making, colouring activities, and towel origami.

As for couples, this is a great spot for a romantic getaway – there are lots of couple things to do, and private moments away from other guests are aplenty.

I know I certainly had a great time!

The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Museum located at the Kuala Lumpur Air Base in Sungai Besi. The museum was officially opened on June 1, 1985.

The hangar was converted into a museum that housed several aircraft that were no longer in service.
A chain have been put around the planes located outside the hanger.

The first aircraft to greet visitors at the field was the Scottish Aviation Twin Pioneer FM1001 - named 'Lang Rajawali' by Malaysia's first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman.

The first aircraft acquired for the No 1 Squadron. In the blogs, it was revealed the people could sit in the cockpits of the aircraft to get a glimpse of how it was to be in the pilot's seat.

However, only one aircraft out of the few located on the field had stairs to allow the public to climb in and check out the interior.

There was not much history stated on all the planes except technical specifications such as the capacity, length and maximum speed.

In the hangar, people are allow to sit in the cockpit of the first plane on the left but the real cockpit was replaced with a fake terminal.

There was a "Flight Terminology Interactive System" booth but there was no personnel in sight to man it and there was a sign outside of it that read "Do not enter without permission".

Inside the hanger, visitorcan get a chance to learn a little history of the airbase and the RMAF.

The Kuala Lumpur Airbase is the oldest base in the RMAF with a long aviation history. The base was handed over to the RMAF on Oct 25, 1960.

As the biggest airport then, the Sungai Besi Airport was jointly used by the military and the Department of Civil Aviation. It served as the country's first international airport before it moved to Subang in 1965.

Meanwhile, the RMAF started when the Air Force Ordinance was passed by Parliament on June 2, 1958 and it was then known as the Royal Malayan Air Force.

All in all, the RMAF museum is a place to visit at least once. The museum has a lot of potential to become a strong tourist attraction if more efforts where made to maintain it and also add new interactive activities.

The museum is located at Jalan Lapangan Terbang Lama and is open from 9am to 5pm on Mondays to Thursday and is closed on Fridays, On the weekends, it is open from 9:30am to 5pm, Admission is free.
In addition, we are just a 5-minute walk away from STAR LRT (Titiwangsa), Monorail (Chow Kit and Titiwangsa) and Pekeliling Bus Station.

In December 2006, KPJ Healthcare Berhad acquired and took over the management of Sentosa Medical Centre. This strategic acquisition is in line with KPJ's overall objective to ensure that private healthcare is accessible to all via its network of hospitals throughout the country. With more than 30 years of experience, KPJ Healthcare Berhad, the healthcare division of Johor Corporation (JCorp) is a leading healthcare service provider in Malaysia. KPJ's extensive network has gone global, and now includes 22 private specialist hospitals consisting of 20 in Malaysia and 2 in Indonesia.

This newly acquired hospital has a history of its own. Sentosa Medical Centre started on 8 May 1852 as a private clinic – Tan Dispensary – at No. 329, Batu Road. Although there was a slight downturn in the economy then due to the end of the Korean War, the practice prospered. Later, we started a Maternity Home above Tan Dispensary and eventually moved to No. 315A, Batu Road, Kuala Lumpur (Foo Chow Association Building). In October 1972, we shifted to No. 316, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur, further expansion of our services. The name of the dispensary was changed from Tan Dispensary to Kelinik Sentosa Nursing Home in October 1972 and, subsequently, to Sentosa Medical Centre in October 1979. In order to accommodate the overwhelming response due to increase for the need of medical care, we expanded our services further and moved to this present building on 1 January 1993.

KUALA Lumpur Sentral (KL Sentral) is an exclusive urban centre built around Malaysia 's largest transit hub,
offering global connectivity, good investment opportunities, business
convenience and an international lifestyle. Its infrastructure supports
five rail networks the exclusive KLIA Express Rail Link, KLIA Transit,
Putra LRT, KTM Komuter and KTM intercity services.

BLUEPRINT. Phased until 2012, KL Sentral is a world
class hub valued at RM5 billion. Taking on the concept of live, work and
play, the centre comprises Stesen Sentral, corporate office towers and
business suites, five star international hotels, luxury condominiums, a
retail mail and services apartments, and an international entertainment
and exhibition centre.

The opening of The Hilton and Le Meridien hotels in
September and October 2004 respectively has propelled KL to a new
dimension, providing a myriad of prestigious lifestyle amenities at an
international level.

The Hilton KL is the only five star hotel in the
country to date to have all its 510 guest rooms equipped with the latest
42 inch plasma televisions.
INTERNATIONAL LIFESTYLE. Adding soon to the new
prestige of KL Sentral will be the Clubhouse. It will cater to the
residents and business community of KL Sentral. With a gross floor area
of 180,000 square feet, the blueprint of this facility is a futuristic
six storey structure which will house an international fitness centre,
exclusive spa, food court, outdoor specialty coffee operators, alfresco
dining outlets and retail shops.

KL Sentral is also building a I 00,000 square feet lifestyle centre
and a one million square feet retail mall to complement the facilities
provided by The Hilton and Le Meridien.

Safety is a high priority of the management of KL
Sentral, so it's not surprising that the management has invested in
state of the art closed circuit televisions.

FUTURE DIRECTION. KL Sentral was recently awarded the
Cyber centre status by Multimedia Development Corporation. With the
status, Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) companies based within KL
Sentral will enjoy the same advantages and benefits as companies based
in Cyberjaya and Penang Cybercity.

As an MSC Cybercentre, it is imperative that KL Sentral
provides a conducive business environment for MSC companies in general
to prosper. It will continue to attract blue chip investors and small
scale entrepreneurs looking for a more convenient place to do business.
Besides this, the management is positioning KL Sentral for the development of niche creative content or new media clusters.

KL Sentral will also co operate and support to provide a
showcase area and incubation facilities to local startups and small and
medium sized enterprises to begin their business ventures. Soon, it
will also provide a package that includes funds, marketing efforts,
accommodation, research and development and other assistance for these
outfits to further grow and compete on a global scale.

Presently, KL Sentral is home to a number of IT companies, including Radius ED, Axis Technologies and Mimos. Unknownnoreply@blogger.com
