Kuala Lumpur - Kampung Baru

Kampung Baru occupies a unique place in the history of Kuala Lumpur. It has been populated since the 1880s and today has become an amalgamation of seven villages over a 100ha area.

Officially listed as a Malay Agricultural Settlement by the British in 1900, Kampung Baru wan first established as pastoral community to attract rural Malays to Kuala Lumpur.

The place still draws its share of visitors and tourists as it is know as a food and shopping haven and is a buzz of activity throughout the day.

Parking spaces are a premium here as there are very few parking lots in comparison to the volume of traffic coming into the village.

Although there are a number of council parking lots, these are scarce and quickly taken up.

The Chow Kit market along Jalan Haji Hussein is the biggest draw in the morning and has a number of parking lots in the area, including City Villa Kuala Lumpur and UO Superstore.

For those visting Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz, the Yayasan Selangor building has number of parking spaces.

The best way to tour the area though is by public transit as Kampung Baru LRT station or Medan Tunku monorail station are nearby.
